Otofonix Reviews: Editorial Rating

Trusted Company Reviews Rating Score for Otofonix: 9.4/10

Otofonix has earned a 9.4/10 score through our editorial rating system. We were quite impressed with their pricing and wide selection. Otofonix provides its hearing devices directly to the public, cutting out the need for shipping to a retail store. This part of their sales model is what helps them to keep their pricing so low. Additionally, they make refurbished models available as another cost-saving measure.

If you’re looking for behind-the-ear or receiver-in-ear style hearing aids, you’ll find a wide selection at Otofonix. You can also choose between models with standard or rechargeable batteries. Completely-in-canal devices are not available at this time. We didn’t expect to find several models with built-in Bluetooth connectivity for such affordable pricing, but Otofonix did not disappoint. Three of their models offer hands-free calling and media streaming.

Otofonix has a unique style of support available to its consumers. While a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty comes standard, you also have the option to purchase an added protection plan that covers accidental damage, normal wear and tear, and tech support. Furthermore, you’ll have access to a blog that covers many hearing aid-related topics and a community forum where you can post questions and concerns for the audiologist or the customer service team. You can even save time by reviewing questions and answers posted by others.

About Otofonix

Otofonix hearing aids come with a standard 1-year warranty that covers your device against defects in materials and workmanship. However, this plan does not cover usual wear and tear and accidental damage. Fortunately, they also offer the Otofonix Protection Plan, which provides additional coverage for accidental damage, normal wear and tear, and tech support.

Accidental Damage

The accidental damage coverage goes above and beyond the manufacturer’s warranty. Whether the damage is due to a drop, spill, or other accident, 100% of the cost of the device’s repair is covered.

Normal Wear and Tear

Your manufacturer’s warranty will not cover damage or repair needs as a result of normal wear and tear. With this additional protection plan, you can rest assured that battery replacements and repair of broken or damaged device components wll be covered.

Technical Support

If your device doesn’t require repair but you’re in need of technical support, you’ll receive it as part of your protection plan.

Exclusions

The Otofonix Protection Plan does not cover the loss or theft of your device. Additionally, if you have your device repaired without contacting Otofonix, you will not be eligible for reimbursement. Repairs or replacement of accessories such as tubing and domes are not included.

Cost

The cost of your Otofonix Protection Plan depends on your device and the length of your chosen plan.

Do I Need a Hearing Test Before Purchasing a Hearing Aid?

While a hearing test is not required prior to your purchase of an Otofonix hearing aid, you should still see an audiologist for testing. Your test results will help you understand your level of hearing loss, the cause of your hearing loss, and what features you need to look for in a device.
Rechargeable vs. Non-Rechargeable Batteries: Which is Best?

When choosing a hearing aid, you’ll need to decide if you want a standard, non-rechargeable battery or a rechargeable battery. When making your choice, there are several things to consider. First, how are your vision and dexterity? Standard hearing aid batteries will need to be replaced occasionally and are very tiny. If you struggle with managing tiny items, a rechargeable style device will be more appropriate. Additionally, while standard-battery hearing devices, such as the Otofonix Elite hearing aid, are typically more affordable, the cost of hearing aid batteries run around $20 per pack, adding to your overall investment over time.

Rechargeable batteries are typically easy to pop on their charger and can be ready to go in just a few hours, with most models lasting 12-20 hours on a single charge. However, if you forget to charge them or are away from home without your charger, you may find yourself without any power once the battery is drained for the day. Additionally, most models will last for several years, but once the battery expires, you’ll have no choice but to purchase a new set.

Can I Purchase a Hearing Aid for One Ear?

While it is recommended that you wear your hearing aids as a set, particularly if you have hearing loss on both sides, Otofonix does make their hearing devices available for a single side. If you’re unsure which side to choose, get the aid fitted to the ear that works best. While this may feel counterintuitive, it works best because your healthier ear can take advantage of the device’s features more efficiently.

Otofonix Cost

Otofonix offers six different models, each with its own features and benefits. Furthermore, while the base cost of each is in line with their competitors, their discounted sale prices and cost to purchase a refurbished model are significantly lower. For example, the Otofonix Encore is already moderately priced at just $590. However, the discounted rate is a mere $199, and purchasing a refurbished model can bring your cost down to $165.

Furthermore, you can choose to pay monthly installments through ShopPay’s financing, even on a discounted or refurbished product. Standard shipping is free for all orders over $75, and you’ll have 45 days to return the device for a full refund if you are dissatisfied.

Groove $1,590 $595 $449
Sona $1,490 $315 $395
Encore $590 $165 $199
Revive $1,590 N/A $499
Elite $490 N/A $149
Apex* N/A $84.00 N/A

*The Otofonix Apex model is currently only available as a refurbished model.

When Should I Remove My Hearing Aids?

For the most part, you can wear your hearing aids during all your normal activities. However, it is not recommended that you wear them continuously. There are some times when you should remove the devices from your ears.

It’s best to remove your devices when you’re sleeping. Sleep is a perfect time to let your ears rest and let your device’s batteries recharge. Also, sleeping with them in can lead to device loss, something not covered by most warranties.

Anytime you’re going to be exposed to water via a shower, swimming, or dancing in the rain, consider the waterproof rating of your device. Most hearing devices are not waterproof and should not be submerged in water. Some, like the Eargo 7 (((INTERNAL LINKING OPP))) and the Jabra Enhance Select 500 (((INTERNAL LINKING OPP))) are waterproof. However, if your device is not designed to withstand water exposure, protect them from moisture at all times.

If you find yourself in an area or activity where others wear hearing protection, you should do the same. Start by removing your hearing aid. Allowing your hearing aid to amplify sounds that are already very loud, such as a lawn mower, music at a concert, or the sounds of a target range, may further damage your hearing.

Otofonix Reviews: Customer Reviews

Otofonix has earned a Trustpilot score of 3.7/5 stars. They currently only have a single review, but it gives them 5 stars. There are no negative Otofonix reviews or complaints via the Better Business Bureau.

Most Otofonix reviews are available directly on their website. Many reviewers gave high praise for the performance of the devices. They were impressed at how they compared with more expensive brands, stating that these are a great alternative.

A few consumers were unhappy, with some concerned that they took longer to ship than anticipated and one stating that their standard battery repeatedly fell out.

Otofonix Vs. Elehear

Otofonix and Elehear (((INTERNAL LINKING OPP))) both earned high scores on our editorial rating system, so we’ve decided to compare them and see who comes out on top.

Otofonix received an 9.4/10 rating. They offer a line of six different hearing aid models, each with its own features and benefits. Some are Bluetooth-capable, and you have the option to choose between a standard or rechargeable battery. Furthermore, they top their 1-year warranty off with optional protection plans that you can purchase alongside your device. We were also impressed with their support setup, which includes an informational blog and access to their customer forum where you can post questions for customer service or the audiologist and review answers received from other customers.

ELEHEAR (((INTERNAL LINKING OPP))) scored just slightly more with an 9.5/10. You won’t find the variety of devices in their catalog that you have with Otofonix because they’ve put all their heart and soul into their Alpha and Alpha Pro hearing aids. These lightweight devices are packed with AI-powered technology to reduce background noise and provide crystal-clear clarity. Their price point is slightly higher than that of the Otofonix devices, but their services include a free online hearing test and guidance from an audiologist every step of the way. Their devices are also water resistant, a feature not mentioned in the Otofonix catalog.
