Table of Contents

Sezzle reviews from consumers are solid. Users like Sezzle for a number of reasons despite the app’s many fees. While most fees are avoidable by paying attention and making payments on time, users need to be aware of potential costs associated with their Sezzle accounts.

Sezzle and its associated app rate well and appear in our best buy now, pay later (BNPL) providers overview. While not in the top spot, the Sezzle platform ranks highly with customers and experts alike, primarily for its flexibility. Users can purchase products or services virtually anywhere in the U.S. or Canada that accepts Visa.

Pros

  • Interest-free borrowing for most payment plans

  • Can choose to have your payment history reported to credit bureaus

  • Several payment methods available

  • Long-term, monthly-payment borrowing available

Cons

  • Multiple fees require awareness to avoid

  • Convenience and origination fees often apply to purchases

  • Smaller network of member retailers than other BNPL platforms

Sezzle Reviews: Features and Benefits

According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, most BNPL companies only report your payment history to the three major credit bureaus when you fail to make payments on time.

One feature we like about Sezzle is that customers can choose an add-on that reports on-time payment histories to the bureaus. This can be an excellent feature for those trying to build a solid credit score but may not have a current score that allows them to obtain a high-quality rewards credit card.

Other features Sezzle can provide are listed here.

  • Three payment plans are available
  • Avoid interest payments with 2 of the 3 plans
  • $15,000 maximum spending limit, based on several factors
  • No hard credit check needed to apply for use
  • Long-term borrowing is available
  • Interest rates as low as 5.99% with excellent credit
  • Multiple rewards tiers for making on-time payments
  • Paid memberships with benefits are available
  • Limited free payment rescheduling
  • Highly rated among consumers and experts

Sezzle Reviews: Editorial Rating

Trusted Company Reviews Rating Score for Sezzle: 9.5

BNPL platforms offer different perks for different types of shoppers. Sezzle rates well, scoring 9.5 out of 10 points according to our rating criteria. During our research, we determined that Sezzle can work well for multiple types of consumers due to the app’s 2-pay, 4-pay, and monthly payment options.

Payment Options Checkout Details Interest Limits
Pay in 4 25% down payment, plus service fee if applicable, make 3 biweekly payments after 0% Up to $15,000
Pay in 2 50% down payment, plus service fee if applicable, make 1 additional payment in two weeks 0% Up to $15,000
Pay Monthly Pay monthly with 3 to 48-month terms 5.99% to 34.99% $150 minimum

Up to $15,000

What We Like

While Sezzle’s network of member merchants where consumers can use the app without a service fee is more limited than its nearest competitors, we like that you can use the app almost anywhere that Visa is accepted.

However, our favorite feature is Sezzle’s willingness to report your on-time payments to credit bureaus by signing up for the option called Sezzle Up. This fact makes it excellent for those looking to build their credit score.

Another feature we like is the ability for users to reschedule one payment date per purchase for free. Choosing a paid membership can qualify you for up to two reschedules.

What We Don’t Like

Sezzle users are pleased with the app’s flexibility. However, our researchers were surprised when learning about all of the potential fees customers could face, especially when late payments are involved.

While many uses of the Sezzle BNPL app don’t require paying fees or interest, many others do require customers to pay a transaction fee for its use. The transaction fee can be up to $5.99, is added to your purchase price, and is due with the initial payment, depending on your purchase.

Fees  When Cost
Transaction fee For some purchases Up to $5.99
Late payment fee For payments after the due date $15
Failed payment fee If your payment method is declined $5
Convenience fee When paying Sezzle with a credit or debit card $2.50
Payment rescheduling fee When rescheduling a second payment date $7.50

About Sezzle Buy Now Pay Later

Sezzle is a BNPL app that works for online and in-store purchases across the country and in Canada. The company allows you to choose your payment method, such as Pay in 4, Pay in 2, and monthly payment options. You can make payments to Sezzle using a credit card, debit card, or bank account. Using a bank account to make payments is the only way to avoid Sezzle’s convenience fee of $2.50 per transaction.

Sezzle’s Pay in 4 and Pay in 2 options feature interest-free agreements. However, some purchases will be subject to a transaction fee of up to $5.99 added to the purchase price. Customers can circumvent some of the company’s several fees by signing up for one of its paid membership options, called Sezzle Premium and Sezzle Anywhere. For purchases of $150 and up, customers can choose a monthly payment plan with annual percentage rates of between 5.99% and 34.99%.

How Does Sezzle Work

At a basic level, Sezzle is just one of many buy now, pay later apps available to consumers. However, the app is highly regarded among its customers. While there are several potential fees associated with Sezzle, there are also workarounds for customers who pay on time and are mindful of when the various fees may apply.

Pay in 4

To use Sezzle’s Pay in 4 option, simply use the app to make an initial 25% payment, plus the transaction fee if applicable, and then follow up by making payments to the app in two-week increments for a total of four payments. No interest is associated with this payment method, and no additional fees will be applied if payments are made on time.

Pay in 2

To use Sezzle’s Pay in 2 option, use the app to make an initial 50% payment, plus the transaction fee if applicable, and then make the final payment on or before the due date two weeks later. No interest is associated with this payment method, and no additional fees will apply if you make your second and last payment on time.

Pay Monthly

Sezzle’s pay monthly plan is reserved for purchases exceeding $150. To use it, you’ll pay 25% of the purchase price at the time of checkout. The remaining balance is then due in monthly payments ranging from 3 to 48 months. Interest rates will apply to the purchase, equalling between 5.99% and 34.99%. The pay monthly plan must be connected to your bank account for payments, as credit and debit card payments are not accepted.

Sezzle Subscriptions

Sezzle rewards customers who regularly make on-time payments by increasing their level or tier, which rewards them through monthly giveaway entries, referral bonuses, and some fee waivers. The tiers are called Platinum, Diamond, and Onyx. Tiered members are also eligible to choose one of Sezzle’s paid subscription programs.

Sezzle Premium

Sezzle Premium costs $12.99 monthly and includes benefits such as gift card availability, waived service fees for many purchases, in-app discounts, and the ability to reschedule up to two payments for free.

Sezzle Anywhere

For $17.99 per month, eligible Sezzle members can join Sezzle Anywhere. The subscription waves virtually all service fees on every purchase, offers up to 1% back on select buys, and also features the other benefits already found in the Premium membership.

Does Sezzle check credit?

Like most BNPL providers, Sezzle performs a soft credit check on your credit report after you provide the company with your personal and financial information. The soft credit check determines your eligibility, will not affect your credit score, and won’t appear on your credit report as a hard inquiry.

Sezzle Eligibility Requirements

Customers must meet a few basic requirements to use the Sezzle app.

  • Be at least 18 years old in most states
  • Be able to verify an email address
  • Have a phone number capable of receiving text messages
  • Have a non-prepaid payment method, including a debit or credit card or bank account

How to Use Sezzle BNPL

Sezzle is easy to use. Simply download the app and start shopping online or in retail locations. When you select Pay with Sezzle, you can then choose to make a purchase request. Enter the purchase amount plus any additional costs, agree to the terms, and proceed to checkout.

For in-store purchases, the procedure is similar, except you’ll need to create a virtual card that you can use at retailers that accept Visa.

Minimum purchase amounts will apply, including a $20 minimum for Pay in 4, a $10 minimum for Pay in 2, and a $150 minimum for Pay Monthly.

Sezzle Reviews

Sezzle reviews from consumers include a Trustpilot rating averaging 4.2 out of five stars, while expert reviews rate the company at just over five stars, on average. The Sezzle app rates at 4.7 in the Play Store and 4.9 in the App Store.

Overall, customers like what they find with Sezzle. Positive sentiments range from excellent customer service to a problem-solving staff. Negative reports often cite unexpected fees and billing issues.

Sezzle Reviews: Alternatives

Sezzle can be particularly good for consumers trying to boost their credit score. While most BNPL apps don’t report to consumer credit bureaus, except when payments are late, Sezzle offers a program that reports your on-time payments as well, making it a good financial tool for those with low to fair credit scores.

However, using the Sezzle app while avoiding one of its many associated fees isn’t always possible. For consumers who are less concerned about their credit score reporting, other BNPL apps also offer excellent benefits with fewer associated fees.

Additionally, consumers can also choose from a range of financing options, such as using one of the best credit cards for fair credit or, pursuing a personal loan to make a large purchase or consolidate debt.

Disclosures

Some Sezzle features, such as its Payment Streaks and tier levels, are still in BETA form as of January 2025. Availability for this and other features may vary.
