Fetch Pet Insurance Reviews: Editorial Rating
Trusted Company Reviews Rating Score for Company name: 7.9/10
Fetch Pet Insurance earned a spot on our list of the Best Pet Insurance Companies in California because it caters to elderly pets. Some companies have caps on the age of the pets they’ll accept, leaving elderly pets with no option for healthcare coverage. Fetch does not. In addition, they cover things that some other companies don’t, such as exam fees, all teeth (not just the canines), and hereditary issues.
In addition to their coverage, we were also impressed by Fetch’s commitment to giving back to animals in need all around the country. Since 2018, they’ve donated more than $2 million to shelters. They continue to do so as they partner with organizations such as the SPCA, Humane Society, and North Shore Animal League America to cover pets for all their essential healthcare needs. More importantly, their donations only go to no-kill shelters, a nod to their love for pets.
Not only do they offer coverage for pets in shelters, but they also care about homeless pets. Fetch is a supporter of Project Street Vet, which offers veterinary care for the pets of homeless people. It’s estimated that more than 65,000 cats and dogs live on the streets with their unhoused parents. The free care offered to these pets helps to ensure they’re healthy and safe, regardless of their living situation.

About Fetch Pet Insurance
Fetch Pet Insurance offers well-rounded policies that provide comprehensive coverage for your pet. In addition to offering instant coverage under their wellness plans, their standard plan waiting period is only 15 days. Furthermore, once coverage begins, Fetch will reimburse you for a wide variety of medical needs.
Some things that stand out about Fetch are their love of older pets, covering animals of all ages. They also include coverage for hereditary conditions, holistic care, and hospitalization costs, which other policies often exclude. Even more impressive is that they include these incredible coverage options in the standard plan so that all pets receive the same great care. Unfortunately, this also means that there is no option for an accident and illness-only policy. It also means that premiums may be less customizable than with some other policies.
What discounts does Fetch Pet Insurance Offer?
- Fetch cares about all pets and wants to make its insurance available to all pet parents. That’s why it offers discounts where possible.
- AARP members can receive 10% off of their pet’s health insurance policy.
- Military members and veterans can receive 10% off of their pet insurance policy.
- Fetch works with many employers to include pet health insurance in the employee benefits package at a discount of 10%. Check with your employer to find out if they participate or to ask them to sign up.
- BlueCross BlueShield members can receive 10% off of Fetch Pet Insurance through the Blue365 program.
What is not covered by Fetch Pet Insurance?
Fetch does not cover pre-existing conditions. A pre-existing condition is anything that the pet had symptoms of or was diagnosed with before the policy’s waiting period is over. This means that if your pet is sick before you purchase your policy or becomes ill or injured during the policy waiting period, the costs associated with the treatment for that particular illness or injury will not qualify for reimbursement. The exclusion of pre-existing conditions is fairly standard with pet insurance policies.
All claims for your pet must be filed within 90 days of service. Fetch will deny coverage for any claims filed after that period.
While some pet health insurance companies offer to pay for prescription pet food, Fetch does not include it in its coverage.
Grooming and cosmetic procedures are excluded from Fetch’s insurance policies. This includes all grooming, tail docking, ear trimming, and declawing.
What Does Fetch Pet Insurance Cover?
Fetch Pet Insurance offers coverage for things that many other policies exclude. For instance, their dental coverage includes all the animal’s teeth, not just the canines, and with the wellness policy add-ons, even routing dental cleanings are covered. Fetch also stands out for its inclusion of sick visits. Exam fees can range from $50 to $250 per visit, and with a Fetch policy, they’ll be covered. They’re also among the few pet insurance providers allowing coverage for conditions considered breed-specific or hereditary.
An important note is that Fetch’s wellness add-ons include a cap for each service’s coverage. For instance, anal gland expression is covered for up to $20 with the purchase of an add-on. You’ll be responsible for the overage if your vet fees exceed that amount.

Fetch Pet Insurance App
Fetch offers its policyholders a free, easy-to-use app that quickly scans documents and tracks claims. The app will even guide you in setting up a direct deposit, which quickly gets your funds to you. You can find the app in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
Fetch Pet Insurance Cost and Deductibles
Fetch Pet Insurance customizes its plan according to your pet’s needs and your preferences. The cost can vary widely depending on the type of pet you’re insuring, their age, their current health, your policy choices (such as add-ons), and how many pets you’re insuring. With that in mind, getting a free quote is the best way to know how much a policy will cost. Simply pop over to Fetch’s website, answer a few questions, and you’ll receive a quote in minutes.
Once you receive your quote, take a moment to review your customization options. Click on “customize price” to toggle your maximum annual payout, annual deductible, and reimbursement rate options. You can then see how much your policy will cost, depending on your choices.
Under your quote, you’ll find the option to add on a wellness plan. Click on “customize your wellness price” to view the costs and benefits of Fetch’s three optional wellness tiers.
Fetch Pet Insurance Waiting Period Information
Fetch’s waiting period for its standard policy is 15 days, which is on par with industry standards. For hip and knee injuries, the waiting period is six months. However, their wellness plan add-ons begin immediately, so there is no need to wait for wellness care.
Fetch Pet Insurance Reviews
Fetch Pet Insurance has a Trustpilot score of 4.4/5, and 78% of reviewers gave the company a 5-star review.
Many reviewers boasted about Fetch’s excellent customer service, praising the knowledge and helpfulness of the agent who assisted them through the purchasing process. They also stated that agents answered their questions clearly, even when they had many. Current policyholders gave kudos for the easy claim submission process and were impressed with how many claims were approved.
Consumers who left poor reviews noted that claim processing took longer than expected. They were also frustrated that the policy cost and terms sometimes changed at renewal time, leaving them to pay more than expected. It appears that a representative from Fetch reaches out to each dissatisfied customer to assist them with their concerns.
Fetch Pet Insurance Vs. ASPCA
Fetch and ASPCA are featured on our Best Pet Insurance Companies in California list for good reason. They’re both excellent companies with high ratings and a wealth of satisfied customers. Both companies offer reimbursement-style policies, meaning you pay your vet directly and then submit claims for reimbursement. Additionally, both have a convenient and easy-to-use app that allows you to submit claims easily and quickly after your visit.
Fetch stands out for its wellness tiers and for not having a waiting period for those plans. While ASPCA offers a multi-pet discount (something not available through Fetch), Fetch makes up for it with multiple discount options for military personnel, veterans, AARP members, Blue365 members, and employees of participating organizations. Fetch also sets itself apart by covering all teeth for dental care, not just the canines and for allowing coverage for hereditary conditions, something often denied by other carriers.
Do you prefer to use holistic treatments? With Fetch, holistic care for your pet is covered under the standard policy, whereas with the ASPCA policy, holistic care is only an add-on option. Furthermore, if your pet requires hospitalization, Fetch will cover the boarding fees, whereas the ASPCA will not. Fetch will also pay for advertising fees if your pet is ever lost, something the ASPCA doesn’t offer to help with.
