Nectar Mattress Review: Best in Memory Foam Mattresses

Table of Contents

Resident launched Nectar Sleep and the Nectar memory foam mattress in 2016. Its product was a memory foam bed-in-a-box that consumers could order online or pick up at a number of retailers nationwide.

The product has since expanded to include three versions of memory foam beds and three versions of innerspring and foam hybrids. Resident still owns and operates several popular mattress brands, Nectar being just one of them. Nectar ranks as the best memory foam mattress on our best mattresses review.

Pros

  • Value priced mattresses

  • Excellent for average-weight sleepers

  • Low motion transfer in all Nectar mattresses

  • Good edge support for all mattresses

  • Lifetime warranties

  • Scores well on many review platforms

  • 365-day trial period

  • Available online or at retail locations

Cons

  • May not be best for stomach sleepers

  • Other brands arguably cool better

  • Heavyweight people may not be comfortable

  • Mattresses require 24 – 72 hours to expand

About Nectar

Nectar Sleep offers three versions of each of two types of Nectar mattresses. Its memory foam lineup features medium-firm support, a therapeutic gel memory foam layer, a cooling layer, and an ActiveSupport base layer, and is made of CertiPUR-US® certified foams. The hybrid series features similar qualities but adds 8-inch innerspring coils and beefs up the mattress edge support.

While Nectar mattresses enjoy very high ratings on several platforms, including Trustpilot, other resources, such as Consumer Affairs, only award mediocre reviews. However, the brand has won numerous awards over the past several years, leading us to believe that comfort on a Nectar mattress likely has to do with size and sleeping habits more than popularity.

The medium-firm support and foam layers generally perform better for lighter-weight back and side sleepers than for heavier bodies or stomach sleepers.

Nectar does excel in a few areas, regardless of review and rating statuses. Regardless of the mattress you choose from the company, you can expect good edge support consistent with material type, lifetime warranties, a 365-day trial period, free shipping and returns, and all of it at reasonable prices whether you purchase yours online or in one of many retailers nationwide.

Nectar Mattress Layers

Nectar foam mattresses consist of five individual layers, all designed for comfort. Hybrid versions add yet another later for the same reason.

Starting at the bottom, Nectar stacks its foam layers on top of a breathable base layer. The layer provides rigid support as a foundation and is specifically designed to allow airflow to the layers above.  This airflow adds to the overall cooling qualities of the mattress.

The next layer is what the company calls an adaptive high-core memory foam. That’s a fancy way of saying it’s the secondary support layer on top of the primary one. Nectar’s foam base is designed for support but also contours to pressure points.

The next two layers are Nectar’s gel-memory foam and quilted gel-memory foam layers. These layers work in tandem to provide loft and comfort and give the mattress its lush feel.

Finally, Nectar uses a custom-milled tencel cooling cover over each mattress. The cover is a microfiber blend of wood pulp transformed into a material similar to cotton but with additional qualities. A tencel cover is somewhat more environmentally sustainable than cotton while offering more fabric flexibility and better cooling properties.

Hybrid mattresses from Nectar insert an additional support layer in the form of pocketed coils that add cooling effects and give the mattress a more traditional feel.

Nectar Reviews

Nectar Sleep isn’t accredited by the Better Business Bureau. However, the company does appear to answer customer complaints when given the opportunity. And, while several review platforms and various award institutions sing Nectar’s praises, other sites barely award more than a couple of stars in their ratings.

Is Nectar Right for You?

Although Nectar offers several versions of its mattresses, all of them have a medium-firm feel and a foam layer with some give. Lightweight persons, side sleepers, and back sleepers will likely find a Nectar to be a good fit without having to spend a fortune on a luxury mattress. Use Nectar products with or without a box spring. You can also purchase bedding, accessories, bed frames, and furniture from the company’s website.

On the other hand, if you’re a person who weighs more than 240 pounds or you sleep best on your stomach, there’s a low chance that you’ll find a Nectar that you love.

Nectar Vs. Casper

Choosing the right mattress for your preferences and sleep style is a very personal matter. However, particular categories exist that make one brand better than another. Putting Nectar and Casper in a side-by-side comparison clearly reveals a winner. However, keep in mind that every person’s body is different, and sleep habits vary widely by person.
