Mobile Help

9.0 Great

  • 30 free location tracking sessions per month

  • Fall detection available

  • Range of devices include mobile and in-home products

  • Equipment and activation do not have upfront charges

  • 100 percent U.S.-based call centers

  • No extended contracts and 30-day free trial

Mobile Help is a Florida-based company that has been in business since 2006. It maintains an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and has remarkably strong customer reviews.

Diverse Product Offering

While some companies focus on in-home or mobile products exclusively, Mobile Help offers a range of devices for both scenarios. Customers can also choose the company’s “Duo” offerings, which combine both device types for comprehensive coverage at home and on the go. Beyond the hardware, Mobile Help’s call centers are 100 percent U.S.-based, making it easier for seniors to communicate clearly with an agent, and two-way communication enables faster response times and triaging of the situation.

Multiple Connectivity Features

While many people have landline phones, not everyone has held onto their old phone lines. Mobile Help’s devices offer cellular and landline connectivity, making it easier to find a solution that fits your needs. Additionally, some products come with GSM/GPS technology and the company offers 30 location tracking sessions per month at no extra charge, adding peace of mind for seniors living alone. These services are available in all 50 states, too, so there won’t be a time when tracking or communication are disabled.

Relatively Easy Setup and Activation

Most Mobile Help customers report a straightforward setup process with easy installation, but some noted that the company’s customer service contacts were not the most accessible. Depending on the situation, you might be directed to an online chat function, especially during the ordering process, but the company does have a dedicated ordering phone line for people who prefer to talk to a person. The installation process only takes a few minutes, and Mobile Help is surprisingly proactive, offering help and guidance throughout setup.

Medical Guardian

9.8 Excellent

  • Medical Guardian offers cellular and landline connectivity

  • Robust online customer center

  • No long-term contracts required

  • Call centers in the United States

  • Available fall detection

  • Range of devices for almost any lifestyle

Medical Guardian has been around for almost 20 years and claims hundreds of thousands of customers. The Pennsylvania-based company offers home and mobile devices, and customers unsure of which product is best can take its easy online quiz to help determine the best fit. The BBB awarded Medical Guardian with an A+ rating, and its automatic fall detection system is rated as one of the best in the industry.

Easy Purchase and Setup Processes

Customers can purchase systems on the phone or online, and the company’s knowledgeable phone reps are available to answer questions and help bundle products for the right fit. Though it offers no long-term contracts, Medical Guardian’s startup costs and shipping are slightly more expensive than some competitors prices.

Installation is also pretty straightforward, with most people reporting setup times of ten minutes or less. Unlike systems from other companies, Medical Guardian’s connections and startup are reliable and work on the first try.

Highly Trained American Call Center Staff

Medical Guardian’s response centers are are 100 percent U.S.-based, and the company’s staff are often lauded for their training and responsiveness. The domestic representatives make it easier for seniors to communicate and eliminates some of the back and forth associated with language barriers that come with foreign call center staff. Most calls result in a wait time of just seconds, and the automatic fall detection contacts a representative quickly and reliably.

Compelling Available and Standard Features

All Medical Guardian systems come with cellular and landline connectivity, with mobile service provided by AT&T or Verizon. They also offer two-way communication, so users can interact with the contact center representatives for faster triage and response times. Some devices offer up to five days of battery life, and all mobile devices come with water resistance for better durability. Automatic fall detection can be a lifeline for some users, as it does not require them to press a button or initiate a call, and in-home systems offer more contact methods with a wall-mounted control panel.

Medical Guardian customers with in-home systems can opt for spouse monitoring, adding to the value, and GPS tracking helps track down seniors who have wandered away from home. That said, mobile systems do not offer spouse monitoring, and the company’s products do not come with wellness checks that many others do. There are also no available medication reminders, so you’ll need a separate device or tracking method if that is an important feature.

Table of Contents

MobileHelp Vs. Medical Guardian

Startup Cost Product 1 Product 2
Mobile Help None MobileHelp Classic: $359.40/year MobileHelp Solo: $384.50/year
Medical Guardian Up to $199.95 MGMini Pendant: $439.45/year MG Home Classic: $329.45/year (wrist band device)

It’s important to note that even more affordable plans from these companies can come with additional costs. Features like fall detection, extended warranties or protection plans, extra devices, and additional family notifications can add $10 or more per month, so it’s important to research all of the costs to avoid surprises on your first bill.
Mobile Help Vs. Medical Guardian

Both Companies Have Plenty of Happy Customers

Though Medical Guardian’s BBB reviews aren’t the best, at 2.02/5, it has received much stronger customer reviews on other platforms and ranks number one in our review of the best medical alert systems. MobileHelp’s 4.5/5 score on the BBB makes it one of the highest rated companies in the industry, and its customers speak highly of it on other platforms. Most people are satisfied with the pricing from both companies, though some stated that Medical Guardian’s options are more expensive than comparable plans from rival companies. Both companies received strong marks for their response times, but they can be inconsistent during busier times.

Setup is Simple

Installation and the initial setup process can be frustrating, but Medical Guardian and MobileHelp take a lot of the pain out of getting started. Most people report setup times of minutes for both companies, and their U.S.-based staff are available to help walk users through the steps. That said, MobileHelp’s Duo systems, which combine mobile and in-home devices, can present challenges, with some people stating that it was difficult to get both set up and working together.

Mobile Apps Provide a Spotty Experience

Medical Guardian and MobileHelp offer mobile apps to help users and family members stay connected and view alerts. Though apps can be a significant benefit, they have to work consistently and intuitively to be useful, and both companies’ customers report occasional struggles with the interfaces. Medical Guardian’s MyGuardian app doesn’t offer push notifications, with many features focused on billing and support, and its app store ratings leave much to be desired.

MobileHelp’s app has similar poor ratings from customers, but its feature set is slightly more robust. The software works with a mobile phone’s GPS features to deliver more accurate location services and has options for contacting 911. Available subscription services add features like app-based 24/7 call center contacts and text message communications.

Despite their upsides, neither app is particularly straightforward, which can be a problem for non-tech-savvy customers. Many people report a clunky interface with extended loading times and frequent crashes, which is far less than ideal during an emergency. The companies appear to have layered app software over a basic website, resulting in poorly rendered pages and an inconsistent experience. The good news is that both companies offer online services via a basic web browser, which many reviews note as the better option.

MobileHelp Tops Device Offerings

Medical Guardian and MobileHelp offer in-home and on-the-go plans, but MobileHelp sells three combined options with both that makes it less expensive to get more comprehensive coverage. Its duo plans come with an in-home hub that brings tighter integration between the devices, and most people report that the system works well once it’s up and running.

Medical Guardian’s mobile and home systems are sold separately, but the upside is that its home devices promise extensive coverage ranges and long battery backup times. They can sync with the wristband or pendant devices, but there’s no central hub like MobileHelp offers, which might be confusing for people not up to date on technology.
