How do Widex hearing aids for tinnitus actually work?

Tinnitus can be really annoying, but Widex hearing aids have a cool trick.

They boost outside sounds, making the ringing less noticeable. For example, your Widex hearing aids will play music or the sound of the ocean’s waves, helping alleviate the obnoxious ringing from your tinnitus.

This helps your brain pay attention to other noises instead.

Reviews on Widex Hearing Aid Styles

Behind-the-Ear (BTE):

BTE hearing aids are worn behind the ear and are connected to a custom earpiece that fits inside the ear canal. They are suitable for various degrees of hearing loss and come in different sizes, from standard BTE to mini BTE.

Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) or Receiver-in-the-Ear (RITE):

RIC/RITE hearing aids are similar to BTEs but with a more discreet design. The receiver (speaker) is placed in the ear canal, connected to the main body of the hearing aid behind the ear by a thin wire or tube. These too come in a variety of sizes including a mini RITE.

In-the-Ear (ITE):

ITE hearing aids are custom-made to fit entirely within the outer ear. They come in different sizes, from full-shell ITEs that fill most of the outer ear to smaller, more discreet models.

In-the-Canal (ITC):

ITC hearing aids are smaller than ITEs and fit partially in the ear canal. They offer a more discreet look while still providing good sound quality.

Completely-in-Canal (CIC):

CIC hearing aids are the smallest custom hearing aids and fit entirely within the ear canal. They are almost invisible when worn and are suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.

Invisible-in-Canal (IIC):

IIC hearing aids are even smaller than CICs and are placed deep within the ear canal, making them virtually invisible when worn.

Tip from the Audiologist:

The smaller hearing aids, although more cosmetically appealing, may loose some features like connectivity and rechargeable batteries.

What are the negative reviews on Widex hearing aids?

At the BBB, surprisingly Widex has a rating of “NR” (which stands for, “No Rating”). BBB gives companies an NR rating for reasons that include insufficient information about a business or ongoing review/update of the business’s file.

There are only two customer reviews and two complaints against Widex, from within the last three years. That’s not a bad credential, considering Widex is one of the larger providers of hearing aids and has been in business for over 64 years.

What are the negative Widex customer reviews at the BBB regarding?

There are only two negative BBB reviews on Widex. Here is a summary of what they are in regards to.

Shaun-Paul P., a Widex BBB Complaint Summary:

Shaun-Paul purchased hearing aids from Widex for $6,000 with the expectation of seamless compatibility with his iPhone and iPad. However, the hearing aids did not work as expected, and he faced difficulties in answering calls between devices.

He also experienced various problems with the hearing aids’ functionality, including having parts replaced and encountering screeching sounds. Shaun-Paul expressed frustration and disappointment with the product’s performance and perceived it as a rip-off.

Natasha G. another BBB Complaint Against Widex:

Natasha received a WIDEX MOMENT hearing aid for $6,800 and found the instruction booklet insufficient for addressing her questions and concerns. She experienced discomfort when inserting the wire and tip into her ear, which she believes is a common reason why people with hearing impairments don’t use hearing aids. Natasha sought better support and information from Widex but found the company’s response inadequate.

How did Widex respond to this BBB complaint?

Widex USA Inc. responded to Natasha’s complaint by expressing regret that her experience didn’t meet their standards and emphasized the importance of a face-to-face consultation with a Hearing Healthcare Professional for addressing comfort and optimal utilization of the hearing aid. The company suggested that the discomfort during receiver insertion should be discussed with a professional. They directed her to visit their website for more product information and provided a customer care phone number for additional assistance.

Star Review Consumer Report Widex Hearing Aid Model
5 “I am a hot air balloon pilot in Toronto and lost hearing due to burner noise. Widex was always better for sound quality and unique programs accessible on my cell phone. Worth the slightly higher price.” Widex Moment 440
5 “I absolutely love my hearing aids. They are extremely comfortable and I can wear them all day. I never wore my old hearing aids all day because they were not comfortable. A good part of the day they were sitting in a dish on my counter. I always felt them in my ears. Now I hear so much better. I am more confident listening either to one person or in a group. Recently, I was in a restaurant and did not experience any difficulty hearing the people at my table. I wore the same style of hearing aids for 23 years and didn’t realize just how much I was missing until I purchased my Evoke 440’s. I also like that I can adjust them with my phone. I’m just sorry I didn’t know about Evoke sooner. I will be a Widex customer forever.” Widex Evoke 440
5 “I owned a different brand of hearing aids in the past and Widex is better. My audiologist recommended the hearing aid that sticks in my ear and goes over the top of my ear. I like the settings that she set up. I also like that I can hook them up to my TV and then it transmits the sound into my hearing aids. The hearing aids have very good quality and the price is well worth it for the package that I bought. The replacement, the unlimited batteries and everything else that goes with it are not cheap but I got what I paid for. I can hear much better than not using hearing aids. Without them, I can hear but I don’t totally understand what’s being said. I’d definitely recommend Widex to others. People should find a confident and thorough audiologist. The products that Widex carries are the most important things, including the warranties and the price. I’m overly satisfied with them.” Widex Evoke 330

Widex  Hearing Aids Complaints:

Star Review Concerns  Widex Hearing Aid Model
1 Rechargeable Batteries-I purchased the Widex Evoke rechargeable hearing aids. I have had random shrill beeping in my ear and my audiologist sent them in. I was told they were having an issue with the rechargeable batteries and would not be replacing those anymore yet I paid an extra $300 for that feature. However, even with regular batteries the hearing aids continue to beep randomly even after being sent back to widex for “fixing”. I’m sure this will keep up (sending back to “fix”) until my warranty is up and I have to shell out another $3000 for hearing aids. What a waste of money! I want a brand new pair at no cost or my money completely refunded, not widex to keep trying to fix them especially since rechargeable is what sold me Widex Evoke 220
3 Bluetooth Streaming-Purchased the latest/greatest Moment HA and was expecting an amazing experience all around. While I am pleased with my ability to now hear everything around me with great clarity under most conditions, I am less than pleased with poor streaming of music and podcasts to my HA. Unless my cell phone is less than 24 inches from my HA, audio fades in and out resulting in a terrible experience. My audiologist was able to return my original pair thinking that the antenna was defective. Received a new replacement pair today and there was no improvement. I contacted Widex technical support and was told they have heard from others with this problem and they are working on a software and firmware update. They could not say when the issue would be corrected. Needless to say I am very disappointed and may return the hearing aids and consider another company. For almost $7,500, I would expect better.
