Oticon Company Overview

Oticon is a well-known Danish manufacturer of hearing aids and is one of the many companies that fall under the Demant parent company. Hans Demant established the Oticon hearing aid company to help his wife live better with hearing loss. They have been in the industry for over a century and have a long history of innovation and technological advancements. Oticon hearing aids are designed to help individuals with hearing loss improve their hearing and overall quality of life.

Overall, Oticon hearing aids are known for their high-quality sound processing, advanced features, and user-friendly designs. They continue to push the boundaries of innovation in hearing care, aiming to improve the lives of individuals with hearing loss.

Pros

  • Innovative Technology: Oticon is known for its cutting-edge technology and continuous innovation in the field of hearing aids. Their devices often incorporate advanced features and signal processing algorithms to provide better sound quality and enhanced listening experiences.

  • Wide Range of Options: Oticon offers a diverse range of hearing aid models to cater to different types and degrees of hearing loss. They have options for various styles, including behind-the-ear (BTE), in-the-ear (ITE), and receiver-in-canal (RIC), allowing users to choose the one that best suits their preferences and needs.

  • User-Friendly Features: Many Oticon hearing aids come with user-friendly features like wireless connectivity, Bluetooth compatibility, and smartphone apps. These features enable users to connect their hearing aids to other devices, stream audio directly to their aids, and make personalized adjustments using their smartphones.

  • Speech Enhancement and Noise Reduction: Oticon hearing aids often incorporate advanced speech enhancement and noise reduction technologies. These features help improve speech understanding in challenging listening environments and reduce background noise, leading to better communication and overall hearing experiences.

  • Comfort and Aesthetics: Oticon hearing aids are designed with user comfort in mind. They are typically lightweight, discreet, and ergonomically shaped, providing a comfortable fit for extended wear. Additionally, many models come in various colors and styles, allowing users to choose a design that matches their preferences and blends with their appearance.

Cons

  • Cost: One of the main drawbacks of Oticon hearing aids is their price. They tend to be on the higher end of the price spectrum compared to some other hearing aid brands. The advanced technology and features incorporated into Oticon devices contribute to their higher cost, which may be a limiting factor for some individuals.

  • Battery Life: Depending on the model and usage, the battery life of Oticon hearing aids can vary. Some users may find that they need to change or recharge the batteries frequently, which can be inconvenient for those who prefer longer-lasting power options.

  • Learning Curve: Like any new technology, using hearing aids from Oticon may have a learning curve for some individuals. Adjusting to wearing and operating the devices, as well as becoming familiar with the various features and controls, may require time and patience.

  • Reliance on Professional Adjustments: While many Oticon hearing aids offer smartphone apps for customization, some adjustments may still require the assistance of a hearing care professional. This reliance on professional fine-tuning can be perceived as a limitation for those who prefer more independent control over their hearing aids.

  • Compatibility Limitations: While Oticon hearing aids often offer wireless connectivity and compatibility with various devices, it’s important to ensure that the aids are compatible with the specific devices or systems you intend to use them with. Not all Oticon models may support the same range of connectivity options, so it’s advisable to check compatibility with your phone or tablet before purchasing.

What You Want to Know About Oticon Hearing Aids

This model features advanced sound processing technology to improve speech understanding and reduce background noise. It allowed for better listening in challenging environments and supported direct streaming of audio from compatible devices.

Designed for children, this model offered similar features to the Opn S but with considerations for young users, such as tamper-resistant battery doors and durable construction.

This model was aimed at providing essential features and performance at a more affordable price point. It included technologies to improve speech clarity and reduce noise.

Let’s Talk About Oticon Hearing Aid Styles

Behind-the-Ear (BTE) Hearing Aids: BTE hearing aids rest behind the ear and are connected to a custom earpiece or ear-mold that fits inside the ear canal. They come in various sizes, from small and discreet to larger and more powerful.

Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) Hearing Aids: RIC hearing aids are similar to BTE models but have a slim design where the speaker (receiver) is placed inside the ear canal. A thin wire connects the speaker to the main body behind the ear, making them less visible.

In-the-Ear (ITE) Hearing Aids: ITE hearing aids are custom-made to fit entirely within the outer portion of the ear. They are available in different sizes and can accommodate various degrees of hearing loss.

In-the-Canal (ITC) Hearing Aids: ITC hearing aids are similar to ITE models but are smaller and fit partly into the ear canal, making them less noticeable.

Completely-in-Canal (CIC) Hearing Aids: CIC hearing aids are even smaller and fit deeply within the ear canal, making them nearly invisible when worn.

Invisible-in-Canal (IIC) Hearing Aids: IIC hearing aids are the smallest and most discreet type, fitting deep inside the ear canal to remain entirely hidden from view.

The New Oticon REAL Hearing Aids

The Oticon REAL hearing aids are premium-level devices designed to provide a natural, personalized listening experience for individuals with hearing loss. They incorporate advanced technology and signal processing algorithms to improve speech understanding and sound quality.

One of the key features of the Oticon REAL hearing aids is their use of deep neural networks. These networks analyze and classify sound environments based on a wide range of inputs, which allows the hearing aids to deliver more accurate sound information to the wearer. The goal is to provide a more realistic and detailed soundscape, allowing users to engage more easily in conversations and various listening situations.

Additionally, the Oticon REAL hearing aids utilize a feature called BrainHearing™ technology. This technology is intended to support the brain’s natural processes and help the wearer understand speech better, even in challenging listening environments. By providing the brain with more precise and detailed sound information, the Oticon Real hearing aids aim to reduce listening effort and improve overall satisfaction with hearing.

Oticon Real Hearing Aids Customer Reviews

Customer reviews of the Oticon Real hearing aids have generally been positive. Many users have reported improved speech clarity, better sound quality, and a more natural listening experience. The deep neural network technology has been praised for its ability to adapt effectively to different sound environments. However, as with any hearing aid, the individual experience can vary depending on factors such as the wearer’s specific hearing loss and personal preferences.

Advanced Features of Oticon Hearing Aids

BrainHearing Technology: Oticon’s BrainHearing Technology is designed to provide a more natural and personalized listening experience. It focuses on how the brain processes sound and delivers a clear, balanced, and detailed sound signal to the wearer.

OpenSound Navigator: This feature helps to improve speech understanding in challenging listening environments. It scans the surrounding soundscape 360 degrees and rapidly adjusts the hearing aid settings to prioritize speech while reducing background noise.

Spatial Sound: Oticon hearing aids can provide a sense of spatial awareness by processing sound in a way that helps the wearer locate the source of a sound. This is particularly helpful in noisy or crowded environments.

Feedback Management: Oticon hearing aids use advanced feedback cancellation algorithms to reduce or eliminate feedback, which is the whistling or squealing sound that can occur when sound from the hearing aid’s speaker is picked up by the microphone.

Bluetooth Connectivity: Many Oticon hearing aids offer wireless connectivity via Bluetooth, allowing them to connect to compatible devices such as smartphones, televisions, and other audio devices. This enables direct streaming of phone calls, music, and other audio content to the hearing aids.

Smartphone Apps and Remote Control: Oticon provides smartphone apps that allow wearers to adjust the settings of their hearing aids discreetly. They can control volume, switch between programs, and even access additional features such as environmental sound adjustments or tinnitus relief.

Tinnitus SoundSupport: Oticon offers tinnitus management solutions integrated into some of their hearing aids. These features generate soothing sounds or offer customizable sound therapy to help individuals manage their tinnitus symptoms.

Oticon Hearing Aids Cost and Models:

The cost of Oticon hearing aids can vary based on several factors, including the specific model, features, technology level, and where you purchase them. Oticon offers a range of hearing aid models to address different types of hearing loss and individual needs.

These models may include basic entry-level options, mid-range devices, and premium models with advanced features. Additionally, advanced technologies such as wireless connectivity, smartphone compatibility, rechargeability, and noise reduction capabilities can contribute to the price of the hearing aids.

The cost for the pair of Oticon hearing aids will range anywhere from $2000-8000 with all different prices in between. Your hearing care professional will counsel you on the best device to fit your needs and budget and what services are included with those devices.

Oticon Hearing Aids Customer Reviews

Star Review Consumer Report Oticon Hearing Aid Model
5 “I wanted to share an experience that highlighted additional value of my Oticon hearing aids. Unfortunately lost one recently out running errands, but where? The GPS “find my hearing aids” feature allowed me to track it down inside a very large grocery store, which was only 1 of several stops I had made that afternoon. Highly recommend these for sound quality and extra features like this one, saved the day!!” Oticon MORE RITE hearing aids
5 I am profoundly hearing impaired and this is the only brand I know of that can help. I have been wearing them and upgrading every few years for about 20 years. I have shopped with several audiologists and came back to the one I found 15 years ago. He prescribes many brands. Oticon Exceed BTE hearing aids
5 Excellent product. I use the TV streamer and wife couldn’t be happier. I upgraded from my very old Acto hearing aids, and can’t believe the difference these make. I waited too long. Oticon REAL RITE hearing aids

Oticon Hearing Aids Complaints:

Star Review Concern Product
3 Rechargeable Batteries-Love the Bluetooth technology and syncing up to my iPhone easy easy. Audible clarity is outstanding once properly adjusted by the audiologist. At issue though, is the rechargeable option. The batteries do last almost 19 hours a charge, however, in this day and age when a cellphone takes less than an hour to charge, it takes 4 plus hours to recharge these, time that some of us don’t have. Moreover, you cannot find replacement batteries anywhere except certain audiologists. The charger itself should come with a cover to protect the charging contractors when the charger is not in use. Moreover, the charger itself should be able to not only charge the hearing aids, but should also be capable of charging spare batteries as well, which is the option these days for most chargers.” Oticon RITE MORE hearing Aids
2 Technologically advanced- “With at $2500 an ear I expected better support from the company and a little more on the technology. When I stared using their hearing aid products, I needed help with the technical side of connecting to my devices.” Oticon RITE OPN hearing aids
