USAA

  • Available to active military members, their families, and veterans

  • USAA is often less expensive than comparable plans from other insurers

  • The company’s customer reviews are some of the best in the industry

  • USAA offers coverage in all 50 states

About

USAA is a financial services company offering insurance (including car insurance), banking, auto loans, mortgages, and more. Though it operates in all 50 states, the company’s products are only available to active service members, veterans, and their families.

Despite that, USAA is usually one of the least expensive options in a given category. Additionally, military members can receive additional benefits, including uniform coverage, deductible-free options for some policies, and up to $10,000 in coverage for belongings destroyed in war.

Features and Benefits

USAA’s limited availability may be frustrating for some, as the company’s benefits and costs are often some of the best. That said, its focus on the military gives it the ability to offer bonuses others can’t, including coverage for military uniforms and personal items destroyed during a deployment. USAA also has far fewer customer complaints with regulatory agencies than others in the industry.

Other Insurance Types Available from USAA

USAA offers several types of insurance, including auto, motorcycle, ATV, RV and motorhome, boat, bike and e-bike, and more. The company also covers classic and collector cars, and it offers a pay-as-you-drive program. Customers can also get life insurance coverage, long-term care insurance, umbrella coverage, pet insurance, travel insurance, personal cybersecurity coverage, and more.

Review

USAA might not have as many regulatory complaints as other insurance companies, but the company has amassed an array of reviews that range from glowing to extremely angry over customer satisfaction and other issues. That said, the company scores well by our judging criteria, earning a 9.2 out of 10 points, which is enough for a spot in our review of the best home insurance companies.
