Embrace Pet Insurance Review: Editorial Rating
Trusted Company Reviews Rating Score for Company name: 8.9/10
Embrace landed on our list of the Best Pet Insurance in California with a score of 8.9/10. They scored high points for including hip dysplasia in their accident and illness coverage. Pet insurance policies often exclude this serious illness, leaving breeds such as German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers, Bulldogs, Saint Bernards, and hip dysplasia-prone pups without coverage. Treatment can be costly, but Embrace even covers dogs whose breed is prone to the illness.
Furthermore, Embrace loves elder dogs and not only covers them but also allows coverage for additional visits to keep them healthy well into advanced age.
The only points lost were due to the lack of a direct pay option and reimbursement percentages that cap out at 90%. This means you’ll always be responsible for at least 10% of your pet’s medical costs.

About Embrace Pet Insurance
Embrace truly does its best to offer pet parents the best possible coverage for their pets. For instance, while other providers have a hard line against covering pre-existing conditions, Embrace handles things differently. If your pet has a pre-existing condition but has been symptom-free for one year, Embrace will cover treatment if it returns.
Embrace also handles wellness differently. Rather than offering an additional wellness policy, they offer a Wellness Rewards program. When you opt for Wellness Rewards, you’ll automatically receive $25 towards your coverage on day 1. Each month, you’ll pay into your rewards account, but you’ll have full access to the total amount of the plan limit starting on day one. Think of it as a healthcare savings account. You can choose coverage amounts of $250, $450, or $650 annually. There is no waiting period, and Embrace will add the cost directly to your monthly insurance premium.
If charitable giving is important to you, you’ll love Embrace’s dedication to giving back. For starters, the company matches all employee donations. Whether the employee chooses a pet-focused charity or another they are passionate about, Embrace matches them all. They also provide all employees with Volunteer Time Off during which they can spend time supporting the causes which mean the most to them. In addition to employee-focused giving, Embrace gives to pet-focused charities around the country. In 2023, they donated more than $506,000 and over 1600 volunteer hours to 150 nonprofits.
How does Embrace work?
Embrace Pet Insurance is a reimbursement-based policy. This means that when your pet requires medical care, you’ll take them to the licensed veterinarian of your choosing. There’s no need to find one that “accepts” Embrace Pet Insurance.
Once your pet has been cared for by the vet, you’ll pay the bill. Then, you’ll submit a claim through Embrace and receive reimbursement for fees associated with covered services.
Does Embrace Pet Insurance cover neutering?
Embrace’s Wellness Rewards plan covers spaying and neutering. This plan allows you to pay into the program monthly as part of your premium and then utilize the savings to pay for wellness needs such as sterilization, vaccination, fecal testing, and more.
Does Embrace Pet Insurance cover dental?
Embrace Pet Insurance covers dental care when necessary due to illness. For instance, if your pet develops an infection in their gums, their care may be covered. However, only the Wellness Reward plan offers coverage for preventative cleanings. If you’re interested in making sure you receive reimbursement for those services, choose the Wellness Rewards option when purchasing your policy.
What Does Embrace Pet Insurance Cover?
Embrace pet insurance offers comprehensive policies that cover pets of all ages. They even provide coverage for senior pets, something other insurance plans don’t allow.
Embrace’s basic accident and illness policy includes coverage for injuries and sickness, as well as dental illness, cancer, breed-specific conditions, genetic conditions, congenital conditions, preventable conditions, hospital and surgical care, and more. Their coverage of breed-specific, congenital, and genetic conditions sets them apart from other providers, as standard policies typically exclude them.
Embrace also offers a Wellness Rewards add-on that provides coverage designed to keep your pet healthy rather than only cover them in case of illness or injury. With the add-on, you can receive reimbursement for wellness exams, vaccinations and titers, gland expression, prescription pet food, grooming, flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, microchipping, and more.
As is standard with most pet insurance policies, Embrace excludes pre-existing conditions, breeding and pregnancy care, injuries related to neglect or abuse, injuries from fighting or racing, cosmetic procedures, and a few other specific instances. Another feature that sets them apart from other pet insurance providers is that they allow coverage for pre-existing conditions if they return after one year of being symptom-free.
